Foam

The foamy material in the couch is polyurethane. I could not do anything to manipulate this material. Of course I could cut it, and fold it in different shapes. But I could make any other material out of it, like I could do to styrofoam and PET.
Different universities and institutions are researching how to recycle foam chemically. Foam is one of the materials that can’t be recycled yet, it only is possible to reuse the material as it is.
So I decided I would embrace that, and use the foam for what it’s always used: To make the couch more comfortable and soft.

Since this material can’t be recycled I think it’s really important to make it super easy to remove the cases from the foam, so that they can be cleaned or renewed when needed.
I did not use all of the foam, a part of it I’ll be using for another project, and what will be left over from that, I will have to bring to the recycle centre. Currently this sadly means the foam will be burned, luckily a bigger amount is repurposed.
